Unfold Weekly presents... how to effectively use LinkedIn during a pandemic
“You have to master the fundamentals,” said every coach ever🥇. Talent in this case is the perfect mix of a great product, the right story, and a good team…BUT you still need style and presentation. So how do you show the brand of YOU in the digital world? In a remote world, how do you want to be seen?
The multi$$$$ Business Card
Gone are the days where Patrick Bateman’s business card in “bone” colored paper with a stunning Silian Rail font was not good enough to be best-in-class.
So in a social media driven world, Microsoft forked out $26.2 billion in an all-cash transaction for the world’s most expensive business card - LinkedIn. So how can we build the best one for us? Be honest, not like Homer!
The URL...what?!
As King Corona has taught us, you need to keep it clean 😷. Whether you are adding your LinkedIn to your CV or have someone look you up, that web address needs to be kept nice and short. Thankfully, there is an easy guide just for that:
Find Your LinkedIn Public Profile
Keep it easy, keep it simple, first and last name will suffice...and potentially a middle initial.
The Profile Picture….Self-Promotion ready for lift-off 🚀
This isn’t dating (but in some ways it is). However, it is the first thing that appears on your profile. While there are plenty of suggestions on the how...
….the ultimate question is - to whom do you need to make your business card most relevant? Is it old school potential investors (Don Draper suit & tie), millennials (casual), or just your best self? Whatever you decide, always remember to show:
Intelligence🧠 - Look the part, focus on the message you are conveying to your audience
Empathy🤔 - Being relatable goes a long way when building a network
Excitement🤣 - A smile is key to convey positivity and success
Legitimacy🥂 - Transmit honesty and integrity
The Background Picture...there is one?
Duh! Obviously not as relevant as the profile picture, with most of the format driven by LinkedIn graphics (we know you want the Steve Jobs way) it is still a helpful tool to give your vibe. You can provide a holistic image of your business, with a relatable theme. Involved in environmental issues? Green will be there. In finance? Bull🐂 (and Bear🐻…if you’re a short seller I suppose! ).
How to Change Your Background Photo
Keep it relevant, stick to the message. Remember to K.I.S.S.💋 - Keep It Simple, Stupid.
This is only half of the LinkedIn story…..in a future newsletter we will examine how the below, while it allows you to go viral, may not exactly be the best strategy to market yourself or business.
